After many setbacks—from Covid delays to fulfilment issues—our lovely partner Seven over at The Normal Tarot has sent us their amazing tarot decks. So this means that THIS WEEK, we will be sending out the very last of our reward items, The Normal Tarot Deck itself! For those of you who purchased the “Tarot Tomfoolery” reward tier or added the deck on through the BackerKit store, you can expect your item imminently.

The Literary Tarot Kickstarter is now LIVE!

That's right, we have just, just, just launched our latest Kickstarter campaign. It's wildly ambitious and unlike anything we've done before. Working with some of the greatest authors and illustrators of our time, Brink is tapping into the magic of classic literature to bring a whole new kind of tarot deck to life with The Literary Tarot.

The Literary Tarot deck will feature a complete set of all 78 tarot cards, illustrated with a stunning limited palette and foil accents, reimagining the tarot's symbolism and lore through a literary lens.

Margaret Atwood (The Handmaid's Tale) pairs Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre with the Queen of Light to explore the levels of consciousness. Leigh Bardugo (Ninth House and Shadow and Bone) leads us to Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden through the Ace of Parchment.

Kelly Sue DeConnick (co-creator and writer of Bitch Planet) pairs the King of Quills with Marcus Aurelius's Meditations. Roxane Gay (Bed Feminist) reveals the monster behind Dorian Gray's painting with the King of Parchment. Patrick Rothfuss (The Name of the Wind) pairs Don Quixote with The Fool.

A team of celebrity authors will pair each tarot card with a literary character who embodies the meaning of the arcana. Then, our incredible art team will bring a library of secrets to life with custom illustrations.

The deck will feature the complete set of all 78 tarot cards, printed on premium heavyweight stock, illustrated with a stunning palette, and inlaid with holographic foils.

Each card will delve into how these classic heroes and villains handle life's trials and temptations, granting us helpful insight into our own complicated lives.

We’re Getting There!

Helllllooo dearest backers!

As it’s been a few weeks since our last update—and we’ve covered a lot of ground in that time—we thought we should pop in for another update!

DIGITAL PRODUCTS & REWARDS

All backers were due to receive at least one complimentary digital story pack and many of you also purchased additional digital products with us. Absolutely all digital products were fulfilled by the end of January—you will have each been sent an email from BackerKit with a download link to any items that you should have. If you haven’t received this email and can’t find it hiding in your Spam either, just drop us a line and we can get the download links sent out to you again!

OUR SHINY STAR OF THE SHOW

Absolutely all copies of F(r)iction—from back stock orders to subscription issues—have now been sent out. We mail these books from the US and UK, so if you’re international and yet to receive your order, please give it a week! It’s definitely coming to you, but if some terrible calamity befalls your package and you haven’t received it within a week, please drop us a line and we’ll track down the holdup. All US and UK backers who answered the shipping survey should have received their copies by now.

SUBSCRIBER PERKS

All new subscribers have also been added to our website’s subscription database. There are two main perks to this: once logged into our website, you can manage all your subscription information online (shipping address, password, renewing your subscription) AND you also have access to our wonderful digital back issue archive! We currently have seven back issues available through our website, with more being added every few months.

To log into your new account, please use the email you supplied us with as your username and click “Lost your password?” to reset your password.

For any backers who already held a subscription with us, we extended your current subscription for a year from its original end date. You can check out this and other details of your subscription by logging into your account on our website.

PLEDGE TIERS WITH OTHER ITEMS

•  Art Prints: RIGHT, we are now ready to begin the process of creating these bespoke art prints! As such, please keep an eye on your inbox as we will be in touch within the next week to confirm your order and discuss any outstanding details with each of you. We can’t wait for your homes and offices (and campers?) to be covered in colorful F(r)iction art!
•  Tarot decks: We’ve been in touch with Seven, the wonderful creator of the Normal Tarot Deck, and they have let us know that production on their gorgeous tarot deck is delayed by a few weeks. As such, the decks are due to be in our hands by the end of May. If you purchased one of these beauties, we’ll get them sent out to you THE VERY MINUTE that we’ve got our little mitts on them!
•  Books Signed by V.E. Schwab: The US Postal Service has managed to do a stellar job of losing Victoria’s lovely signed books… so she is oh-so kindly supplying us with more. For any backers who are expecting a book signed by the wonderful Schwab, we’ll be sending it your way as soon as the replacements have arrived with us.
•  Other Items: For any backers who bought tiers that included items besides F(r)iction, art prints, or the tarot deck (i.e. professional edits, a comic portfolio critique, or a custom comic commission), our Managing Editor, Helen, sent out individual emails to each of you a couple of weeks ago. So if you haven’t heard a word, check your Spam!

An Update on Our Progress

Helllllooo dearest backers!

We are popping into your inboxes with further updates and intel about our fulfillment progress. If you backed us for no reward or selected a tier with only digital goodies, read no further! You, dearest readers, are all done!

However, for everyone else, take a gander at EXACTLY what’s shaking with your tiers!

FULFILLMENT PROGRESS

Another round of packages has been sent out this week. For anyone in the US, you can expect to receive an email with your tracking numbers from BackerKit by the end of tomorrow at the latest. Please note that for orders to all other countries, our mailing system unfortunately does not supply tracking numbers (damn you, Royal mail!). But we pinky swear they have been sent.

COMPLIMENTARY ISSUE

As you all know, our very last stretch goal was for all subscribers to receive a free issue of F(r)iction. Because, like, who doesn’t love free books!?! We selected that free book to be F(r)iction#15 because who doesn’t love a cool Identity issue to really get us thinking about who we are exactly?

Well, unfortunately for us—to add to our comical 2020 list of COVID and Christmas disasters—our remaining stock of Fr15 fell victim to the last big Colorado snowstorm, which took the opportunity to melt into our garage. I know what you’re thinking: are these people the least lucky humans alive? We feel you. Oh, do we feel you.

But of course, we are certainly not gonna revoke the free issue offer, we just have to send you issues that aren’t waterlogged. Thus, you’ll be received a different issue for free. We have just a few undamaged F(r)iction #15, so those will be prioritized to people who bought that issue specifically as a back issue or those who purchased the ENTIRE back catalog. You keen beans.

P.S. Don’t worry. We went out and bought an ungodly amount of shelving units so no books will die such a tragic death again...

ART PRINTS

As our art prints will all be created bespoke for you art-loving backers, we will be in touch to confirm orders and begin the creation process in mid-Feb.

TAROT TOMFOOLERY

For all backers who bought the tarot tier, your shiny F(r)ictionbooks have been sent out this week. Our partners over at Normal Tarot tell us that we should expect the decks by the end of March, so as soon as they are in our hands, we will send them your way and update you!

PLEDGE TIERS WITH OTHER ITEMS

For all backers who bought tiers that included other items besides issues of F(r)iction or art prints (i.e. professional edits, a comic portfolio critique, or a custom comic commission), we will be in touch in February to begin the ball rolling on these other items.
